Why do my kittens meow when someone approaches?
msako asked:
I have five 3 week old kittens. Sometimes when someone approaches them they meow and run out of their nest towards us. Then they continue meowing. Sometimes they wander off, running in various directions. Sometimes they climb on our laps. I mean its not really consistent what they do afterward. Their mother gets upset and meows at us to put them back. Why are they behaving this way? What do they want?

they are just afraid of the persons coming their way. maybe their instincts that this person coming is not their friend or something. try letting the cat know the person approaching.

If they are running towards you, then they want you to pet them and pay attention. They are getting older and wanting to explore the world outside of their mother. If they are running away, then there has not been enough interaction between them and humans; therefore not getting socializied (they’re scared). Mom is a good mother and wants to protect her babies from harm. Also, animals “feel” when someone is not an animal lover and will avoid those and run away.
Sounds like they are in good hands.

I think that they are being friendly and curious and just saying “HI!” What a sweet thing! Just pet and love them and then give them back to their mother. The fact that they run toward you indicates that they like you. Lucky cats!!!
